Coming home I kept asking myself about what I had seen. I came to a conclusion that a dream of architecture has come true. It was certainly a result of pursuing lightness and transparency.

　 No longer a beam and the slab was so thin. (named the plate) A light steel pipe mesh column did almost the whole work. Over and over again I wondered if it really is structured only by these steel pipes (tube). And following this premise the whole glass walled construction makes you feel as if you are sitting outside in the sunshine, even when you are staying inside(named the skin). It is not just that the interior space is like the outer space but that there is an atmosphere of public space outside even staying in the interior space. In this case a public space means to be a space where everyone can walk around freely. Consequently you can,t help imagining that the management of the place should be very open-minded. Thus these are my statements about the hall space of each floor on the roadside.

　Since the tube made of the meshed steel pipes includes the staircase and the elevator shaft and is covered with glass, continuous view of the floors above and downward was made possible. It is a strange feeling indeed that there is no door set when you climbed up the stairs and you can see and feel the continuity of each floor.

　The glass walled air-conditioning ducts. This was not easy to recognize.It might be kind if there was an explanation for the general public. It may be an important fact that the life line of the building is out there and not hidden. Likely the tube also provides the shaft of natural light flowing into the building. (This was not confirmed this time. It can be experienced upon sunset time)



These are the basic statements as for the core part of architectural construction that the bearng wall was all glassed and the continuous view and opened space of the whole building was possible.This was the most valuable point.


　I had read “Sendai Mediatheque Concept” NTT Edition\2000 It was genuinely about architecture I had been mentioning so far. Reading this book convinced me to find out that the architect has a hope that the contents may be innovated as well as the innovation of the container. I can see that there were many people engaged in other areas who had come to share this architectural image and worked hard together to realize this new type of public facility. The idea is superb! It is providing not just libraries, materials and data but is opened to the public to think freely about the usage of the place( public center functioning as a node of the community). A new aspect of public thought well coordinates and collaborates with the thought of architecture presented.Since it is just born and found out,there is a long way to go before the new system gets on the way. The new offerring includes that the user is given a chance to participate in the operation of the center and be the producer. Doesn,t that mean that you are the one who can express yourself using public facility? Such is the person who can decipher a new stage of world using the newest information. You happen to be quite a maniac. The birth of such kind of people using the place is welcomed. Aren,t you an open- minded maniac ? It was my conclusion that a new approach for the public thought has been made and accomplished.
